AT&T unveils 4G LTE-enabled smartcase with a microSD card slot for Wi-Fi iPads

While having an LTE-equipped iPad is the most preferable option for many customers, paying the extra money to get one, versus the Wi-Fi-only variant, can be a hard pill to swallow.

AT&T has decided to help those with Wi-Fi-only iPads by announcing a brand new “smartcase,” which the carrier says offers quite a bit of features in the slim case. As revealed by the image above, the case does indeed cover the entirety of the tablet when it’s closed, but when it’s open it offers a nice stand to prop the tablet up. The tentpole feature of the smartcase is its ability to connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE network, which customers can access via the Mobile Share data plan.

There isn’t a keyboard attached to it, but there is a built-in 4600mAh battery, which AT&T says will offer an additional 10 hours of battery life. On top of that, the Modio smartcase will also offer a microSD card slot for expanded storage up to 32GB.

The smartcase will be available for the iPad mini lineup, as well as the iPad Air and iPad Air 2. As of the time of this writing, AT&T has the iPad mini Modio smartcase listed as coming soon, but a price has not yet been divulged. The larger variant for the larger iPads is not listed just yet.

Do you plan on picking one of these up?
