Do car buyers really hate it this much?
Buyers say they hate the haggle!

An online study conducted in the US has found people hate buying cars more than traditionally loathsome visits to a motor registry or sitting in the middle seat on an airplane!

Many respondents even said they would give up sex or Facebook for a month to avoid the hoo-ha that goes on when buying a new car.

Conducted by car shopping site Edmunds.com, the surveyed of more than 1,000 U.S. adults also found that purchasing a car or truck is more stressful than getting married, going on a first date or watching their team in a close championship game.

Edmunds.com CEO Avi Steinlauf says the main message to come out of the survey is that people hate haggling over price and want the whole car buying experience to be easier.

“Nine out of 10 respondents wish car shopping was easier. We don’t see any difference in the experience when looking at gender, age, geography or any other demographic variances,”

“It’s clear that the average shopper is craving a better way to buy a car.”

The survey also found:

  • Nine out of 10 car shoppers would be more excited to purchase a vehicle if it had a set price they felt good about, rather than having to haggle
  • Ninety-four percent would buy a car from a dealership where they were guaranteed to save thousands off of sticker price on a new vehicle
  • Online resources are the highest-rated sources of car advice across all demographics
  • Friends were consistently rated as the worst source for car buying advice and are twice as likely to be cited as a source of bad advice than a source of good advice.

No wonder car companies are pushing to move car sales online! Do you agree that buying a car in a dealership is a stressful experience? Would you rather buy online? Let us know below.
