In light of Valentine’s Day, new research from the Department of Health has found that most people are put off by smoking when looking for love.

New research from the Department of Health has revealed that when looking for a Valentine, many people are put off by cigarette smokers. If improving your health wasn’t a good enough reason to kick the habit, what about finding love?

If you’re looking for love on the most romantic day of the year – Valentine’s Day – then the research makes things plain and simple. Quit smoking!

The research shows that 18-24 year olds are the age group most deterred by the smell of cigarettes. 74% of those polled would not kiss someone who had just smoked a cigarette, 76% agreed that smoking makes people seem less attractive and 64% of 35-44 year olds would refuse a kiss from a smoker!

It’s more than just the simple smell or taste of cigarettes, though. 47% of those polled would think twice about starting a serious relationship with someone if they were a smoker. The findings seem to show that being a smoker plays a huge part in selecting a partner.

Despite the health and romantic implications of smoking, over eight million people in England still smoke. However, by quitting smoking, not only could people be likely to find a hot date but they could also increase life expectancy by a whopping 16 years, as well as save a great deal of money.
