Here’s How to Store Brownies Without Losing Flavor

A pan is filled with cut brownies.

Nothing beats freshly baked warm brownies right out of the oven. Plus, this sweet treat makes for a tasty snack several days after initially baking them. But it’s a bummer when they start to lose their flavor and dry out.

The next time you bake brownies, store them in the fridge in an airtight container for a longer-lasting flavor.

Brownies can typically last on the counter for a day or two, but when you store them in the fridge, they can retain their delicious flavor for up to a week. To maximize their freshness, don’t cut the brownies until they’re ready to eat, and make sure they’re completely cooled before placing them in an airtight container.

Worried about that “refrigerator flavor” infecting your brownies? Place them in cellophane or plastic wrap and then place them in the airtight container. Add a layer on the bottom and the top to help them retain their moist, delicious flavor. This extra layer will also protect your sweet dessert from contamination by any thawing meat in the fridge.

As for how to know they’ve been in your fridge a bit too long, your brownies have gone bad when they start to change in color or appearance. If the brownie smells “off” or you notice mold growing, it’s time to throw them in the trash.

If you’re looking to try a new recipe, there are many ways you can turn a basic brownie into a mouthwatering treat.
