The internet is increasingly becoming the car industry battleground with a new survey finding online car advice and car reviews are swaying car buyers.

The global study of 10,000 motorists by Accenture found that in 2015 80% of car buyers now use car advice and car reviews found on the internet to help them decide which car to buy.

And, in what could be a major step towards increasing online car sales, almost half of those surveyed said the car advice and car reviews that they read online is enough to make them feel confident enough to buy a car without even a test-drive!

Christina Raab, global managing director for Digital Consumer Services in Accenture’s automotive practice, told Detroit Bureau the internet is changing the entire car buying exercise.

“The impact of the digital customer is becoming pervasive, disrupting the traditional car-buying experience and the competitive landscape,”.

“This is clearly supported by the fact that many would consider conducting the entire car-buying process online.”

The study also found that 62% buyers initiate their car buying online (i.e. booking a test-drive), while 75% said that if given the opportunity, they would consider making their entire car-buying process online, including financing, price negotiation, back office paperwork and home delivery.
