Cars are part of the daily lives of most people, but certain vehicles do more than get us from “Point A to Point B.” These vehicles have a long history as head-turning icons thanks, in part, to appearances in film and other popular culture.

Insurance comparison website has created illustrations that detail a handful of vehicles it found to be most iconic, and how much they have changed in terms of design over the decades. The cars are the Mini Cooper, the Aston Martin DB series, the Chevrolet Corvette, the Ford Mustang and the Mercedes Benz SL-Class.

The Mini Cooper has gotten larger in recent years thanks to redesigns, but is still one of the smaller vehicles available for purchase today, and one of the more iconic compact vehicles ever produced. The Mini was a favorite of the Beatles’ George Harrison, and has found its way into movies such as “The Italian Job,” where it was used as a getaway vehicle.

The Ford Mustang is another iconic American vehicle, with early models featured in movies such as “Gone in 60 Seconds,” in which a Mustang named Eleanor is the focus of the movie, and “Bullitt,” which stars a Mustang in one of Hollywood’s most infamous car chase scenes. Later models, such as the third generation (known as the Foxbody), have a reputation of being one of the best options for building a high-horsepower vehicle, thanks to an incredibly adaptable chassis and a vast selection of aftermarket parts.

A British entrepreneur named David Brown purchased Aston Martin in 1947, and the company flourished thanks to the production of the DB series, which began the following year. The series of vehicles became especially iconic thanks to James Bond action movies, especially Bond’s version of the Aston Martin DB5 in “Goldfinger,” which featured an ejector seat, front-mounted machine guns and tire shredders.

Few vehicles carry a reputation with as much elegance and class as Mercedes-Benz’s SL-Class, with striking designs going back to the breathtaking first generation “Gullwing” model, which included doors hinged in the roof. To celebrate its appearance in countless films, Warner Brothers Studios hosted a 2-day exhibit in 2012, displaying SL’s from the 1950’s up until present day.
